P&G, Narrowboat Owners, Oxford
Not only does Green Boat Services provide much-needed services to Oxford’s boat owners, it does so with real professionalism. From the time we bought our narrowboat in 2011, GBS has been a fantastic resource, from helping us steer it into our mooring for the first time, to electrical and plumbing upgrades and major work like hull blacking.
We always recommended them to our friends in the boating community who need work done. Life as a boater in Oxford would be a much more difficult proposition without them!
V.L.G, local residential narrowboater
In August 2013, I took NB teeison Elijah to Green Boat Services for some long-overdue maintenance. After talking to Sam Dent and Jon Ody about what they could do for me, I arranged to have the hull and cabin sides thoroughly cleaned, new anodes welded, the floor of the gas locker replaced, the stovepipe and chimney collar replaced, a new float switch fitted to the bilge pump, the stern gear repacked, and the bilge cleaned and painted.
After slipping the boat and steam cleaning the hull, Sam and Jon discovered that the blacking was inadequate (only two years on) so three coats of blacking were added to the work list. All the work was done to the highest standard. Jeff, a wizard of a metal worker, even put an invisible patch on the cabin roof where rust had eaten a hole next to the chimney collar and he also added four new drain channels to the hand rails that match the two existing ones exactly.
The whole crew, Sam, Jon, Daz, Jeff, Oz, and Dave, were so professional and worked so hard to make Elijah perfect again. And more than anything else, they cleaned up after all their work and left me with a clean and tidy boat to cruise back home only five days later.
I have no hesitation in recommending Green Boat Services for any maintenance or alterations you might want on your narrowboat.
P&R, Cruiser Owners, Oxfordshire
We are the owners of a 35 year old safari 25 cruiser. As you can imagine, the passage of time, the many attempts at DIY with a friend who claims ‘ I know exactly what to do’, being left out in all weathers, has had a serious effect on her health.
We first met Jon Ody when we broke down in the Summer of 2011. He came on the scene very quickly and fixed the drive plate. Having realised that at last here was someone who actually knew boat engines, we hired him to do many more much needed jobs. It’s not an easy task on our boat, there is a mixture of old and new parts, areas of the engine are almost impossible to reach, and the Jabsco pump is back to front. Jon however persevered, and we are delighted to say that we are up and running and she purrs like a happy Kitty.
Jon and Sam kept us informed during the work with lots of texts and many a photo. With their very friendly nature and the’ not giving up until it’s fixed’ attitude, we would have no problems in recommending to others.
